The hipped or sloping side roof is removed and the end wall is then built up straight to form a new vertical gable. Surrounded by greenery and immersed in natural light the roof crop offers an ideal place to host an intimate gathering. A half hipped roof is almost identical to a simple hip roof design but instead the two sides of the roof are shortened creating eaves at the either side of the house. Gable to gable loft conversions include a new box extension that spans the space between each gable end.

This type of roof provides more options for extending the loft and installing windows allowing a greater amount of natural light into the room. Gambrel roofs are slightly rounded at the top and often appear as though they are capping a building.
